Funding Negotiations

The Exploration Company GmbH, a German space‑technology firm, is in talks to raise at least $300 million in a new financing round. The round would place the company’s valuation at more than $2 billion. The financing has not yet been finalised.

Investor Participation

According to sources cited by the Financial Times, the European Union’s Scaleup Europe Fund is expected to join the round. The fund is managed by Swedish investment group EQT AB.

Use of Proceeds

The capital is earmarked to develop Europe’s first reusable space capsule designed to transport cargo to the International Space Station and to build its planned replacement.

Prior Funding History

In 2024, The Exploration Company raised approximately $160 million. That round included backing from the French and German governments through investors French Tech Souveraineté and Germany’s DeepTech and Climate Fonds. The 2024 financing also supported development of the reusable capsule named Nyx.

Competitive Positioning

The company is positioned as a potential European competitor to Elon Musk’s SpaceX in the commercial space‑transportation market.
