Exxon Mobil Corp Name Change and Relocation
Exxon Mobil Corp announced that it will change its corporate name to ExxonMobil Holdings Corp following the relocation of its headquarters from New Jersey to Texas. The name change, disclosed in a regulatory filing on Wednesday, represents the first alteration of the company's name since the 1999 merger that created Exxon Mobil Corp from Exxon Corp and Mobil Corp. The original Exxon name was adopted in 1972 when the firm was known as Jersey Standard.
Shareholders approved the relocation at the company's annual meeting held in May. Under the restructuring plan, each existing share of Exxon will be exchanged for one share of the newly formed holding company, ExxonMobil Holdings Corp. The exchange ratio is one‑for‑one, and the new shares will continue to trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the existing ticker XOM beginning Thursday.
The filing confirms that the corporate restructuring does not affect the ticker symbol, and the transition is expected to be seamless for investors. This move marks a significant corporate milestone, reflecting both a geographic shift to Texas and a formal rebranding after more than two decades.
