Firebird Opens CIS Region’s Largest AI Factory in Armenia
Firebird, a U.S.-based AI cloud infrastructure provider, officially launched the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region’s largest AI Factory on Saturday in Hrazdan, Armenia. The facility represents a multi‑billion‑dollar global computing platform and is powered by Nvidia Corp’s accelerated computing, networking, and software stack, making it one of the largest AI infrastructure undertakings in Europe and frontier markets.
The plant is built on the Nvidia DSX platform together with Dell Technologies’ PowerEdge servers and is designed to support large‑scale AI training, fine‑tuning, and inference workloads. The initial phase operates with Nvidia B200 Blackwell GPUs. Firebird has outlined an ambitious roadmap to expand the footprint further.
Strategically, the launch aims to leverage regional energy capacity, bypass power‑grid bottlenecks that affect Western markets, and position Armenia as an emerging technological crossroads linking regional and international developers.
The opening ceremony was attended by high‑level political and industry representatives, including Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Zhaslan Madiyev, and U.S. diplomats, underscoring the diplomatic weight behind the project.
Nvidia announced its intention to make a direct investment in Firebird, joining existing strategic backers such as CoreWeave. The Armenian facility will reserve a portion of its compute capacity for local Armenian AI startups, university research, and government initiatives, while up to 90% of total capacity will be available to U.S. and global enterprises. Early customers include the search‑engine maker Perplexity.
