FirstClub Expands into Beauty & Personal Care with a Quality‑First Offering
On 6 November 2026, FirstClub Technology Pvt. Ltd, the Bengaluru‑based quality‑first consumer app, announced the launch of its Beauty & Personal Care assortment under the “Filtered for Good” banner. The new line features more than 80 brands spanning skincare, haircare, body care and personal care, with price points ranging from ₹300 to ₹3,500. Exclusive launches on the platform include Chosen by Dermatology, Flout and LNGVTY, alongside established names such as The Bare Bar, &Done, Sereko and Manetain.
Ingredient‑Banning Framework
Building on its earlier ban of over 200 ingredients across packaged foods, FirstClub has now prohibited more than 100 ingredients from its beauty catalogue. Banned substances include known carcinogens, hormone disruptors, skin sensitizers, allergens, toxic metals and environmental pollutants such as DMDM Hydantoin, Resorcinol, PPD, MI/MIT and Butylparaben. The ingredient‑first framework follows a four‑step vetting process:
1. Global research and benchmarking – Ingredients are screened against the Environmental Working Group (EWG) Skin Deep database, EU Regulation EC 1223/2009, SCCS opinions, Indian regulations and international retailer standards.
2. Science‑backed ingredient evaluation – A proprietary, research‑led framework determines exclusions and sets category‑specific standards.
3. Category‑specific testing and standards – All cleansers undergo pH testing; sunscreens are subject to in‑vivo testing; hair oils must comply with a no‑mineral‑oil policy.
4. Customer rating threshold – Only products that achieve a minimum of four stars from verified customers are listed.
Consumer‑Centric Product Presentation
Each product page provides 100 % ingredient disclosure, translating chemical names into plain‑language explanations, highlighting hero ingredients, addressing specific skin concerns, and indicating suitable skin types. The pages also summarize real‑customer reviews, enabling shoppers to assess suitability at a glance. Additional features include a Samples Selector that lets users trial products before purchasing full sizes and a “Complete the Regime” tool that recommends complementary items to build a full routine.
Leadership Commentary and Strategic Vision
Founder and CEO Ayyappan R, who previously held senior roles at Flipkart, Cleartrip and Myntra, stated that while the industry chases catalogue size, FirstClub prioritises “better” choices, emphasizing safety, transparency and quality. He underscored the mission to simplify ingredient science for consumers, asserting that deciphering product chemistry should be FirstClub’s responsibility, not the shopper’s.
Funding Background
FirstClub has previously raised $31 million across two funding rounds led by Accel, with participation from RTP Global, Blume Founders Fund, Quiet Capital and notable angel investors such as Binny Bansal (Flipkart), Kunal Shah (CRED), Mukesh Bansal (Myntra, Cult), Lalit Keshre (Groww), Ankit Nagori (Eatfit) and Shrenik Ghodawat (Sanjay Ghodawat Group).
Brand Film Launch
The launch is supported by a brand film featuring Ayyappan R alongside FirstClub’s Head of Categories Rahul and Category Marketing lead Shriya. The video illustrates a shopper confronting an unintelligible ingredient label (Methylisothiazolinone) and demonstrates how FirstClub benchmarks every ingredient against Indian and global safety standards, conducts pH and in‑vivo testing, and curates only highly rated products.
