Announcement

Freyr Energy, India's second‑largest residential rooftop solar company operating under the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, announced on 17 October 2026 that world‑cup‑winning cricket captain Rohit Sharma has been appointed its first brand ambassador.

Campaign Details

The appointment launches the nationwide “Solar Ho, Toh Freyr Ho!” campaign, built around the premise that a rooftop solar system is a 30‑year decision requiring a trustworthy partner. The campaign includes the ad film “Rishta Pakka,” in which Sharma appears as the protagonist discussing solar benefits, subsidies and a humour‑led narrative. The film is available on Freyr Energy’s YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/SW_0c1FSaQU).

Company Background and Offerings

Freyr Energy, founded in 2014 by co‑founders Saurabh Marda and Radhika Choudary, has designed, financed, installed and serviced more than 24,000 residential solar systems across over 40 Indian cities. The firm has introduced industry firsts such as the Freyr Energy App, self‑cleaning solar modules and solar experience centres. Eligible households under the PM Surya Ghar scheme can receive government subsidies of up to ₹78,000, and Freyr offers low‑interest financing to further reduce upfront costs.

Executive Comments

Saurabh Marda, Co‑founder and Managing Director, said the aim is to raise the bar for what Indian homeowners can expect over the 30‑year life of a system and that Rohit Sharma’s record of consistency makes him a natural fit. Radhika Choudary, Co‑founder and Director, emphasized that families trust a solar provider for three decades and the campaign’s tagline encapsulates that promise. Rohit Sharma, represented by RISE Worldwide, stated that protecting the environment is close to his heart and that rooftop solar enables families to contribute to a sustainable future. Rajan Mahalingam, Marketing Head, added that the campaign is intended to make Freyr the first name that comes to mind when families consider rooftop solar.

Market Context

The launch coincides with the PM Surya Ghar Yojana driving millions of Indian families toward rooftop solar for the first time, highlighting the importance of reliable long‑term service providers.
