The Technology Development Board (TDB), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, has signed an agreement with GalaxEye Space Solutions Private Limited, Bengaluru for financial support of ₹63.84 crore under the Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund. This support, provided through Optionally Convertible Debentures, is part of a larger project with total approved cost of ₹247.69 crore aimed at developing multisensor satellite technology.
The project focuses on advancing indigenous OptoSAR technology, which combines Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Electro-Optical (EO) imaging capabilities. This fusion technology addresses limitations of traditional optical imaging by operating irrespective of daylight and penetrating cloud cover, while maintaining high-resolution visual detail. The system is designed to provide sub-0.5 metre high-resolution imaging capabilities.
The funding will enable GalaxEye to progress the technology from Technology Readiness Level (TRL)-6 to TRL-9, covering further development, engineering, testing, and validation phases. The technology is intended to support applications including wide-area and long-range surveillance, human and vehicle detection, and target classification across diverse weather and lighting conditions.
Sh. Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, emphasized that India's space ecosystem is entering a phase where developing sophisticated indigenous technologies is increasingly important, and the RDI Fund provides critical support for technology-intensive efforts between advanced development and deployment stages. Promoters of GalaxEye stated that this partnership will accelerate the development and validation of their OptoSAR technology toward commercialization.
