Overview

The QS World University Rankings Asia 2027, released in early November 2026, placed 1,722 universities worldwide, up from 1,526 the previous year, with 195 new entrants. India’s representation grew to 325 institutions. While 71 % of returning Indian universities slipped, Galgotias University defied the trend by rising 32 places to 422nd in Asia and 12 places to 104th in Southern Asia. In the 2025 edition the university had been in the 621‑640 band in Asia and 187th in Southern Asia.

Times Higher Education Rankings

The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, published on 30 September 2026, showed Galgotias climbing 24 places in India to 41st, moving from 27th to 20th among private institutions, and advancing from the 1201‑1500 global band to the 1001‑1200 band.

Global and National Positioning

In the QS global band the university sits in the 1201‑1400 range, ranking 16th among private universities and 46th among all Indian universities. In THE it is in the 1001‑1200 global band, 20th among private universities and 41st overall in India.

Research Profile

The university now reports 9,957 Scopus‑indexed publications, 80,859 citations and an h‑index of 104. Of its publications, 56.6 % appear in Q1 or Q2 journals, the top half of journals by citations. The institution highlights that only three Indian universities are in Asia’s top 50 for citations per paper, underscoring the challenge of improving citation impact.

Investment in AI and Infrastructure

Galgotias has committed INR 350 crore to artificial‑intelligence infrastructure, operating an NVIDIA DGX H200 system for faculty research and student projects, and running a semiconductor research lab together with a Centre of Excellence in partnership with Microchip Technology India.

Startup Ecosystem and Industry Partnerships

More than 135 startups have been incubated on campus, several of which are already generating revenue. The university has signed agreements with Yamanashi Prefecture and the University of Yamanashi for joint green‑hydrogen research, and has formal collaborations with institutions in Italy, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam. Corporate partners include Accenture, Tata Technologies and Apple, among others such as Infosys, IBM, Microsoft, Intel, Cisco, L&T EduTech, Capgemini and Salesforce.

Internationalisation Metrics

QS data shows the university’s positions for international students, international faculty and student exchange range between 219th and 279th in Asia, well ahead of its overall Asian rank. The next goal is to translate this strength into higher volumes of international research collaboration and employer reputation.

Strategic Priorities for the Coming Year

The university will focus on increasing the share of publications in Q1/Q2 journals, strengthening doctoral qualifications among faculty, commercialising research outputs, expanding joint research with international partners, and deepening industry engagement in teaching, research and recruitment. Progress, including shortfalls, will be publicly reported.

Leadership Quote

Chief Executive Officer Dr Dhruv Galgotia said the 32‑place rise in QS Asia, following a 24‑place rise in THE India, confirms the university is moving in the right direction, but emphasized that rankings are not the finish line; the focus remains on research impact, innovation, and industry‑student partnerships.
