Overview

On 24 October 2026, Galgotias University held a closed‑door meeting with H.E. Junichi Ishidera, Vice Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, on the sidelines of the Fuji Hydrogen Summit 2026 in Yamanashi, Japan. During the meeting the university signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Yamanashi Prefecture and a Letter of Intent with the University of Yamanashi, covering workforce mobility and joint green‑hydrogen research.

Strategic Collaboration

Both parties agreed on a time‑bound pathway for Galgotias students that will start internships in Japan in the first year and continue through the second and third years, culminating in job placements. The priority sectors identified for these placements are manufacturing, information technology, technology, healthcare and hospitality. In parallel, the two sides discussed establishing a Japanese Culture Centre on the Galgotias campus to support Japanese language and cultural learning, thereby preparing students for education, internships and careers in Japan.

Prior Engagements

The MoUs stem from a larger engagement that began with a 200‑strong delegation from Yamanashi visiting the Galgotias campus in August 2026 as part of the UP‑Japan Investment Meet 2026, led by Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki. More than 200 Japanese industrialists, CEOs and policymakers attended the August visit, which was welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath. The Chief Minister pledged a long‑term partnership with Japanese investors and specifically praised Galgotias University for being the only university in Uttar Pradesh to sign such an MoU.

Summit Participation

At the Fuji Hydrogen Summit, Galgotias University participated as a strategic partner on the invitation of Yamanashi Prefecture. Indian participants included Shri Awanish Awasthi (Advisor to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh), senior officials from the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Invest UP, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and leading Indian companies operating in the green‑hydrogen ecosystem. The summit facilitated interactions with Yamanashi Prefectural Government officials and Japanese industry representatives on green hydrogen technology, investment, research and skills development. The Galgotias delegation also met representatives from Finland, Brazil, Vietnam and Austria, extending its international engagement beyond Japan.

Site Visits

The Galgotias team visited a green‑hydrogen production plant in Yamanashi and toured the research facilities at the University of Yamanashi, meeting its President. These visits provided insight into potential joint research projects and student placement sites.
