GoCredit Launches Free Loan App Checker
GoCredit has launched a free, no‑signup loan‑app safety checker available at https://gocredit.money/loan-app. The tool allows any borrower to type the name of a loan application and, within seconds, receive a verdict indicating whether the app is real, fake, or operated by an RBI‑registered lender.
The checker searches the entered app name against the Reserve Bank of India’s public directory of Digital Lending Apps (DLA) that lists 1,024 digital lending apps as of 1 September 2026, and against a database of more than 9,200 RBI‑registered entities. When a match is found, the borrower is shown the regulated entity behind the app, the entity’s grievance redressal officer, and the escalation route to the RBI Ombudsman. If no match is found, the tool does not label the app as banned; instead it provides a verification checklist and the official reporting channels, including the RBI’s complaint portal (sachet.rbi.org.in) and the national cyber‑crime portal (cybercrime.gov.in) with helpline 1930.
The service aligns with Google Play India policy, which requires personal‑loan apps to appear in the RBI DLA directory before they can be distributed on the store. An app absent from the directory should not be offering personal loans on Google Play. The release notes that, although social media circulates “banned app” lists, there is no official public list because blocking orders under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act are confidential. In a written reply to Parliament on 21 July 2026, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology disclosed that 87 illegal loan‑lending applications have been blocked to date, without publishing their names.
Anupam Acharya, Co‑founder and CEO of GoCredit, stated: “Every viral ‘fake loan app list’ is somebody’s guess, and borrowers are making decisions about their money based on those guesses. The verifiable question isn’t which apps are banned — it’s which regulated entity is behind the app in front of you. RBI publishes that. We made it searchable.”
The release also outlines a five‑step verification sequence for borrowers, whether or not they use the tool: (1) search the app name in RBI’s DLA directory; (2) open the app’s About or Compliance screen to locate the regulated entity; (3) read the loan agreement or sanction letter where the legal lender is named; (4) never pay an advance “processing fee,” as registered lenders deduct charges from the disbursed amount; and (5) report any discrepancies to RBI or the cyber‑crime portal.
The checker deliberately avoids describing an app as “RBI‑approved,” emphasizing that the RBI directory is a disclosure by regulated entities, not an endorsement. The tool is possible because of the RBI’s Digital Lending Directions, which mandate reporting of deployed apps by banks, NBFCs, or housing finance companies.
Alongside the checker, GoCredit has published a complete list of RBI‑registered loan apps with dedicated safety pages naming the deploying regulated entities. GoCredit’s broader platform operates an AI Loan Agent that matches borrowers with RBI‑registered lending partners through a single consent‑based application, reducing multiple credit‑bureau inquiries.
The loan‑app safety checker is free, requires no registration, and the underlying directory data is refreshed from the RBI’s published source.
