Over 580 Alphabet AI researchers signed a letter urging CEO Sundar Pichai to refuse providing Google's AI for classified US defense projects.
About two‑thirds of signatories chose to be named while roughly one‑third requested anonymity, and the letter was delivered on Monday.
The protest follows a Pentagon‑Anthropic dispute over AI tools, with the defense department seeking to remove Claude from its supply chain.
Google previously limited defense work in 2018 after employee concerns about AI warfare, highlighting ongoing internal resistance to military contracts.
