Investment Overview
Google announced a €13 billion investment in Finland covering digital infrastructure, clean energy and local partnerships, marking its largest single investment in Europe and aimed at supporting the growing demand for its core services such as Search, Maps and Gemini.
Economic Impact
During the initial construction phase scheduled for 2027 and 2028, the project is expected to support more than 37,000 jobs nationwide and contribute €3.6 billion annually to Finland’s gross domestic product. Once the facilities become fully operational, they will sustain thousands of permanent positions ranging from engineers to security and catering staff.
Community and Workforce Initiatives
Google will commit €31 million over the next four years to the communities of Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos and Vaala. The funding will back education and economic growth programmes, including AI upskilling for over 4,400 workers and the creation of training opportunities for 100 Finnish students preparing for future data‑center careers.
Energy and Sustainability Commitments
The company signed a 22‑year agreement to support the life‑extension of the Loviisa nuclear power plant, to add new on‑shore wind capacity and to procure a 94‑megawatt battery system designed to stabilise electricity prices during cold, windless periods. These energy investments align with Google’s stated commitments to keep energy affordable for consumers and to invest in clean‑energy solutions.
Supplier Ecosystem
Google converted a former paper mill in Hamina into a data centre fifteen years ago. Between 2023 and 2025, its presence in Hamina supported an ecosystem of more than 600 Finnish suppliers involved in construction, operations and network‑fiber deployment.
