Google (Alphabet Inc.) announced today that it has broken ground on its inaugural data center in Sweden, located in Horndal.
The facility will support Google’s core services—Search, Google Cloud, and YouTube—and is designed to meet rising demand in the region.
It will create 100 direct jobs and will be air‑cooled to reduce water consumption; off‑site heat recovery systems will supply heat to nearby homes and businesses.
Since 2013, Google has contributed more than 700 MW of renewable energy to Sweden’s electricity grid.
Concurrently, Google is launching a €5 million fund for community initiatives focused on education, sustainability, and workforce development, aimed at further job creation.
The project expands Google’s Swedish footprint, which began with its first office in 2004, and adds to its global network of data centers.
