Strategic Initiative Overview
Grasim Industries Limited's Advanced Materials Division and its renewable energy subsidiary Aditya Birla Renewables Limited (ABRen) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Suzlon Energy Limited to collaborate on developing, commercializing, and scaling wind turbines equipped with recyclable blade technology. The partnership was signed at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026.
Technology Innovation
The collaboration focuses on Recyclamine® epoxy technology supplied by Grasim, which enables chemical recycling of wind turbine blades at end-of-life, allowing recovery of valuable composite constituents for reuse in new applications. This addresses the current challenge where conventional wind turbine blades made from thermoset composite materials are difficult to recycle and often end up in landfills or incineration.
Collaboration Structure
Under the agreement:
- Suzlon, as the wind turbine OEM, will integrate Recyclamine® technology into the manufacturing of recyclable wind turbine blades
- Aditya Birla Renewables will deploy a wind turbine equipped with recyclable blades at one of its selected project sites to demonstrate commercial viability under real-world operating conditions
- The parties will jointly explore opportunities for broader commercialization and market adoption of recyclable blade-enabled wind turbines across India and other mutually agreed markets
