Asian Champions Trophy Turf Maintenance Completed
Great SportsTech Limited, a Hyderabad‑based sports‑infrastructure firm, has finished detailed maintenance of the synthetic playing surfaces at both the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar and the Olympian Balbir Singh Senior International Hockey Stadium in Mohali. The work employed Horger machines specifically designed for hockey turf; these machines lifted and groomed the pile, extracted accumulated dust and debris, and restored proper drainage. In addition, the crew inspected and repaired seams and checked the underlying pipelines on both pitches to ensure the surfaces provide the expected pace and true roll for elite competition.
Jalandhar’s pitch, which Great SportsTech originally installed with a FieldTurf surface in 2023, received the same thorough inspection and refurbishment ahead of India’s title‑defence opener against Bangladesh.
The ninth edition of the Asian Champions Trophy, hosted in Punjab for the first time, will feature six national teams – India, Bangladesh, China, Japan, Malaysia and South Korea. The league stage is scheduled at Jalandhar from 27 October to 2 November, after which the tournament will shift to Mohali for the semi‑finals on 4 November and the final on 5 November. All matches are open to spectators free of charge, offering local fans a rare opportunity to watch top Asian hockey teams live.
Beyond the immediate competition, the press release notes that the event aims to inspire young players across Punjab by showcasing the highest level of the sport and potentially leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
