Press Release Overview

On October 6, 2026, Greenwater Scientific announced the commercial availability of its flagship product, the greenwaterHOME Air Synthesizer, from its manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana. The device combines a three‑stage mechanical filtration system with a living micro‑algae culture that photosynthesises to absorb indoor carbon dioxide and release fresh oxygen, addressing both pollutant removal and oxygen replenishment in sealed rooms.

Technology and Performance

The system automatically regulates nutrient composition, pH, temperature and fluid movement to maintain optimal algae health. An independently verified NABL report states that a single greenwaterHOME unit generates oxygen equivalent to that produced by 64 snake plants, a substantial improvement over conventional indoor plants, which contribute minimally due to limited light and leaf dust. The micro‑algae employed are responsible for more than 70% of the planet’s oxygen production. Visual feedback is provided through a colour‑changing culture: the algae turn from pale to deep green as they proliferate, indicating higher carbon‑dioxide uptake and oxygen output.

Origin and Development

The concept originated in California in 2022 when an Indian undergraduate at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) investigated indoor air quality in closed environments. Research and early prototyping were conducted at UCSD and through two cohorts of the Blackstone LaunchPad accelerator. Engineering, testing, and full‑scale manufacturing were later shifted to India. A patent application was filed in 2023, and Greenwater Scientific was incorporated as a Private Limited company later that year.

Awards and Recognitions

Greenwater Scientific has received multiple accolades: a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from the U.S. House of Representatives, presented by Congressman Juan Vargas, for its climate‑focused innovation; the Grand Prize at UCSD’s Triton Innovation Challenge; nomination as one of three startups representing UCSD at Techathon+ in Hong Kong; selection for the StartBlue ocean‑enterprise accelerator run by Scripps Institution of Oceanography and UCSD’s Rady School of Management; and finalist status in the Blackstone IDEAS Competition.
