Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, delivered 'Amini', an Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), to the Indian Navy on November 5, 2026. The vessel was indigenously designed and built in accordance with the Classification Rules of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
Amini represents one of the largest Indian Naval warships propelled by waterjets and is equipped with state-of-the-art lightweight torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers, and sonars for effective detection and engagement of underwater threats. The ship will significantly enhance the Navy's anti-submarine warfare, coastal surveillance, and mine-laying capabilities.
The vessel derives its name from Amini Island in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep and continues the naval tradition by reincarnating the erstwhile INS Amini, a Petya III Class Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette that was decommissioned in 2002. With over 80 percent indigenous content, this delivery marks a milestone in the Indian Navy's pursuit of indigenous shipbuilding and aligns with the Government's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, demonstrating the growing strength of domestic defence manufacturing and reduced dependency on imports.
