Harshamitra Oncology Receives ₹4.80 Crore VCF-SC Funding for Cancer Care Expansion
Harshamitra Oncology Pvt. Ltd., based in Trichy, Tamil Nadu and owned by Dr. Govindaraj, received financial assistance of ₹4.80 crore in 2015 through the Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Castes (VCF-SC) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The venture capital assistance comprised equity and optionally convertible debentures specifically aimed at supporting Scheduled Caste entrepreneurs.
The funding enabled the company to expand its cancer treatment facility and strengthen operational capabilities to serve larger populations, particularly focusing on underserved rural and semi-urban communities. The project specifically enhanced radiation therapy services, making quality cancer treatment more accessible and affordable for underprivileged communities in the region.
Beyond healthcare delivery, the expansion generated both direct and indirect employment opportunities for local people while strengthening community healthcare infrastructure. The intervention has resulted in improved access to specialized oncology services and better healthcare outcomes for underserved populations in Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Govindaraj confirmed that the VCF-SC support not only strengthened the business but also helped continue contributions to social welfare and healthcare services in the region. This case demonstrates how targeted financial support through government schemes can enable sustainable healthcare enterprises that address accessibility gaps in specialized medical treatment.
