Announcement
HCG Aastha Cancer Centre, located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, announced the launch of advanced nuclear medicine services comprising Gamma Camera imaging, PET‑CT scanning and targeted radionuclide therapies.
Diagnostic Capabilities
The Gamma Camera provides functional imaging by detecting radioactive tracers administered to patients, allowing assessment of organs such as heart, thyroid, liver, gallbladder, kidneys and urinary system. PET‑CT combines positron emission tomography, which shows cellular metabolic activity, with computed tomography, which delivers detailed anatomical images, enabling precise tumor localisation, staging, treatment planning and response monitoring.
Tracer Portfolio
According to Consultant Nuclear Medicine Specialist Dr. Surya Teja Gavani, the centre employs disease‑specific tracers including fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), prostate‑specific membrane antigen (PSMA), DOTA‑based agents and fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (FAPI), selected based on cancer type and clinical condition.
Targeted Radionuclide Therapies
The centre now offers radionuclide therapies that deliver radiation directly to cancer cells while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. Available treatments include:
- Radioiodine therapy for certain thyroid cancers.
- Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) for neuroendocrine tumours.
- PSMA‑directed therapy for eligible prostate cancer patients.
These therapies are positioned as components of precision medicine, matching treatment to specific tumour characteristics.
Integrated Care Approach
The new technologies allow multidisciplinary specialists at HCG Aastha to collaborate on personalized care pathways covering diagnosis, treatment selection and follow‑up, with the objective of accurate detection, deeper disease understanding and timely, appropriate therapy.
