Hindustan Group of Institutions Hosts Dr. K.C.G. Verghese Excellence Awards 2026

On June 23, 2026, Hindustan Group of Institutions (HGI) celebrated its 60‑year legacy by organizing the Dr. K.C.G. Verghese Excellence Awards 2026 at the Hotel Hilton in Chennai. The awards, instituted in memory of the late Dr. K.C.G. Verghese, Founder Chairman of HGI, aim to recognise outstanding leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and societal contributions across a broad spectrum of fields.

The ceremony was attended by Justice A.D. Jagadish Chandira of the Madras High Court, who served as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Hugues Boiteau, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of France in India, who was the Distinguished Guest. The event also featured Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, delivering remarks on the institution’s vision and future direction.

Thirteen distinguished achievers were honoured across six award categories: Lifetime Achievement, Academic & Research Excellence, Corporate Excellence, Alumni Excellence, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Child Prodigy.

Lifetime Achievement recipients included Mr. Biju Balendran, Deputy Managing Director of MG Motor India, recognised for his pivotal role in advancing automotive innovation and mobility solutions; Mr. Satish Chandra Gupta, Senior Advisor at IndiGo and veteran aviation professional; Dr. Bashi V. Velayudhan, Director of ICAAAD, SIMS Hospitals; and Dr. G.S.K. Velu, Chairman of FICCI and Managing Director of Neuberg Diagnostics, honoured for contributions to aviation, healthcare, entrepreneurship and industry leadership.

Academic & Research Excellence was awarded to Dr. Rajnish Kumar, Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Madras, for his research and higher‑education impact.

Corporate Excellence recognised Lt. Col. V. Shanmuga Velan, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Elena Geo Systems Pvt. Ltd., for his technological and innovative contributions.

Alumni Excellence awards were presented to Mr. Sisirakanta Dash, Group Chief Strategy Officer at Air India; Mr. P. Senthil Kumar, Global Executive Leader at Ashok Leyland; Mr. Nandakumar Shekar, an international football player and HITS alumnus; and Ms. T. Dharshini, a national basketball player and HITS alumna, highlighting the institution’s role in nurturing talent across sports and industry.

Corporate Social Responsibility awards went to Mr. K. Ramesh, Founder of the Mugavari Foundation, and Dr. Saundarya Rajesh, Managing Director of Avtar, for their significant social development and inclusion initiatives.

The Child Prodigy Award was conferred upon Ms. Victoria Isaac (known as Victoriastic) in recognition of exceptional talent and achievement at a young age.

During the ceremony, HGI unveiled its 60‑year anniversary logo, symbolising six decades of educational excellence, research, innovation and nation‑building contributions. Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese emphasized that the awards embody the values of excellence, innovation, integrity and service, and reiterated the group’s commitment to building future‑ready talent, strengthening industry‑academia collaboration and supporting India’s growth story through education and research.
