Overview
Hindustan Power, an integrated power generation company focused on renewable and transitional energy, announced that it has achieved financial closure for its 435 MWp (300 MW) solar power project in Lalitpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) has sanctioned a debt facility of ₹1,135 crore to fund the project, and construction work is already underway in line with the planned development schedule.
Project Details
The Lalitpur solar project was awarded to Hindustan Power through a competitive bidding process in 2025 and is among the largest solar developments in the state. It is backed by a long‑term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), which will purchase the clean electricity generated. The project’s capacity of 435 MWp (equivalent to 300 MW of usable power) will add a sizable new source of renewable generation to Uttar Pradesh’s grid.
National Renewable Energy Context
India has now crossed the 300 GW mark for installed non‑fossil fuel‑based power capacity, representing roughly 60 % of the country’s target of 500 GW of clean capacity by 2030. This milestone highlights the accelerating shift toward cleaner energy sources to meet rising electricity demand driven by expanding industrial activity and overall economic growth.
Strategic Significance
Ratul Puri, Chairman of Hindustan Power, emphasized that the project exemplifies the dual imperative of meeting growing electricity demand while increasing reliance on renewable energy. He noted that successful execution—building reliable, efficient, and sustainable generation capacity—is central to India’s energy transition. The Lalitpur project is expected not only to supply clean power but also to stimulate regional economic activity and generate employment opportunities for local communities.
Company Outlook
The financial closure of the ₹1,135 crore debt facility reinforces Hindustan Power’s broader strategy of expanding its renewable and transitional energy portfolio. The company continues to pursue large‑scale energy infrastructure projects designed to support India’s growing power requirements and contribute to the nation’s overall energy transition.
