Overview

On August 26, 2026, Ratul Puri, Chairman of Hindustan Power, highlighted the rapid transformation of India’s energy landscape, driven by rising electricity demand, expanding industrial activity, and accelerating adoption of cleaner power sources. He noted that the country has already crossed 300 GW of installed non‑fossil fuel‑based capacity, representing roughly 60 % of the 500 GW target set for 2030.

Project Details

Hindustan Power is developing a 435 MWp (300 MW) solar power project in the Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The project, awarded to the company through a competitive bidding process in 2025, is among the largest solar developments in the state and is backed by a long‑term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) to supply clean electricity to the region.

Financial Closure

The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) has sanctioned a debt facility of ₹1,135 crore for the Lalitpur solar project, enabling Hindustan Power to achieve full financial closure. Construction work is already underway and progressing according to the planned development schedule.

Strategic Context

Ratul Puri emphasized that while renewable capacity is essential, the success of India’s energy transition will depend on the efficient development, integration, and deployment of that capacity. The Lalitpur project exemplifies this approach, aiming to add substantial clean generation capacity while supporting Uttar Pradesh’s growing electricity needs.

Economic Impact

Beyond electricity generation, the project is expected to stimulate regional economic activity and create employment opportunities for local communities, adding a broader economic dimension to the investment.
