Hindustan Zinc Limited has disclosed progress on its renewable energy transition through a press release dated August 18, 2026. The disclosure is made in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

Renewable Power Consumption Update

The company has increased its renewable power consumption to 22% of overall power consumption, up from approximately 18% in FY26. This marks continued progress in the company's clean energy transition.

Renewable Energy Targets

Hindustan Zinc is targeting to meet approximately 70% of its overall power requirements through renewable energy by FY28. The company is scaling clean energy adoption across its mining and smelting operations in Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.

Power Generation Performance

During FY26, the company generated 892 million units of green power, compared with 632 million units in FY25. The increase in green power generation, along with renewable power procurement, has contributed to the steady growth of renewable energy in the company's overall power mix.

Renewable Energy Infrastructure

To support the 70% renewable energy target, Hindustan Zinc expanded its round-the-clock renewable energy power delivery agreement with Serentica Renewables from 450 MW to 530 MW. The renewable energy portfolio combines solar, wind and energy storage solutions to enable reliable round-the-clock clean power across operations.

Additional Energy Initiatives

The company is upgrading power connectivity from the state transmission network to the central transmission utility and implementing innovative in-house projects including:

  • Enhancing waste heat recovery boiler steam turbine generation through efficiency improvements
  • Harnessing renewable energy through floating solar installations on water ponds

Management Commentary

Mr. Amarendu Prakash, CEO, stated: "The next chapter of growth in metals and mining will be defined by our ability to produce more with a progressively lower environmental footprint. With renewable power now accounting for 22% of our power consumption and our ambition to take this to 70% by FY28, we are demonstrating that clean energy is not simply a decarbonization lever; it is fundamental to creating a more resilient, competitive and responsible business."
