HSBC Strengthens Saudi Capital Markets Team
HSBC (LON:HSBA) announced the appointment of three senior bankers to its Capital Markets and Advisory team in Saudi Arabia. Pierre Fayad joined as Mergers and Acquisitions Director, moving from Goldman Sachs, and will work with HSBC’s regional M&A leadership team on originating and executing major transactions. Chris Johannson was recruited from HSBC Continental Europe as a director in the Equity Capital Markets team, expanding the bank’s equity financing capabilities. Andrew Pedder relocated from Singapore to head the Leveraged and Acquisition Finance business in Saudi Arabia. All three appointments are subject to regulatory approval.
The hires are intended to strengthen HSBC’s origination and execution capabilities for corporate, sovereign and financial‑institution clients across the region. They form part of HSBC’s broader strategic push in the Gulf, which the bank has identified as a key growth market benefitting from increasing cross‑border investment, dealmaking and capital flows between the Middle East and Asia.
These moves occur as HSBC continues to scale back parts of its global operations under a restructuring led by Chief Executive Georges Elhedery, sharpening its focus on advisory and equity capital markets businesses in Asia and the Middle East.
