Hyliion Shifts Fuel Responsibility to Customers and Raises Full‑Year Outlook

In an interview with Investing.com following its second‑quarter results released on August 11, 2026, Hyliion CEO Thomas Healy explained that buyers of the company’s KARNO power modules will now be responsible for sourcing the fuel required to run the generators. Customers can secure pipeline natural gas where available or arrange on‑site diesel storage, and the modules are capable of operating on more than 20 different fuel sources, providing flexibility and redundancy for data‑center operators and other purchasers.

Hyliion announced that it has increased its full‑year revenue guidance by 50%, lifting the target to approximately $15 million. The same quarter reported a net loss of $13.9 million. In addition, the company disclosed a $41.7 million contract with the U.S. Navy, marking its largest military award to date.

Commercialization of the 200‑kilowatt KARNO Power Module has been pushed to 2027, with early deployments slated for later this year as the company continues to court data‑center demand. Hyliion also highlighted progress on an 800‑kilowatt module for the Navy and ongoing on‑site testing of the 200‑kilowatt commercial units.

The firm’s current additive‑manufacturing printer fleet supports roughly 15 megawatts of annual production capacity. One data‑center customer has expressed interest in 400 megawatts per year, creating a significant gap between existing capacity and demand. Hyliion plans to triple printer throughput and begin ramping additive‑manufacturing investment in 2027, a year earlier than previously scheduled, to address the backlog of interest.

Approximately 750 KARNO cores are tied to non‑binding letters of intent, with more than half originating from data‑center providers. Conversion of these LOIs into firm orders will depend on successful customer testing and validation of the units. While Hyliion is charging customers for early‑stage units, it will not recognize the associated revenue until after the commercialization phase is completed.
