Hyundai Motor to Acquire SoftBank’s Remaining Stake in Boston Dynamics
On 19 June 2026, Hyundai Motor announced that it will purchase SoftBank Group’s remaining 9.65% equity interest in Boston Dynamics for a cash consideration of $325 million. This transaction will convert Boston Dynamics into a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Hyundai.
Hyundai already holds over 90% of Boston Dynamics through its chief executive Euisun Chung and affiliated entities Kia, Hyundai Mobis, and Hyundai Glovis. SoftBank recently exercised its contractual right to sell the balance of its holding, and Hyundai agreed to the purchase on the terms disclosed.
The automaker originally secured a controlling stake in Boston Dynamics in late‑2020. The current acquisition underscores Hyundai’s accelerated push into robotics and artificial intelligence, a strategic direction that has been reinforced over the past year through collaborations with technology partner Nvidia on multiple ventures.
