Overview

Privy by IDfy, the enterprise privacy and data‑governance platform of IDfy, announced on 6 October 2026 that it has completed more than 50 enterprise implementations of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act. The deployments span banking and financial services, fintech, insurance, retail and e‑commerce, telecom, healthcare, real‑estate, manufacturing and other digital businesses.

Scale of Deployments

Across the ongoing projects the platform now governs over 500 million data principals, manages more than 2 billion consent records, and has discovered, classified and governed in excess of 10 petabytes of personal data.

Leadership Commentary

"We have spent 15 years working with some of the most sensitive personal data in India. Five years ago, we made a deliberate long‑term bet that privacy would become fundamental to the digital economy and backed that conviction with capital, people and product investment," said Ashok Hariharan, Founder & CEO of IDfy.

Chief Product Officer Paritosh Desai added that while “connecting to a database is the easy part, the real challenge is recognising personal data in all the ways it actually appears across documents, scans, images, masked identifiers and industry‑specific formats.”

COO Malcolm Gomes emphasized that “privacy implementation at enterprise scale cuts across technology, processes, people, legacy systems and multiple business teams, and no two organisations start from the same place.”

Implementation Realities

The press release notes that each organisation brings a unique mix of legacy technology, cloud applications, third‑party processors, internal processes and ownership structures, meaning that while the DPDP regulation is common, implementation approaches differ markedly. Challenges highlighted include aligning legal, technology, information‑security, procurement, product and business teams; handling data‑principal rights requests that require locating the same individual across disparate systems; resolving deletion requests that raise retention questions; and linking consent records to actual processing activities.

Emerging Insights from 50+ Deployments

The breadth of implementations has revealed typical points where programmes stall, which stakeholders need early involvement, integration difficulties caused by legacy infrastructure, and how many apparent privacy issues are actually data, identity or process problems. The experience underscores that rights, consent, assessments, third‑party risk, incidents and compliance evidence all depend on a reliable understanding of the underlying data.

Regulatory Timeline and Future Outlook

May 2027 is identified as the immediate regulatory milestone for DPDP compliance, but the release stresses that privacy programmes will extend beyond this deadline, especially as AI introduces additional layers of complexity in how organisations use, move and govern data. Enterprises are urged to build adaptable governance capabilities rather than merely meeting a compliance cutoff.

Recognition

Privy by IDfy was awarded the DPDP Innovation Challenge run by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the National e‑Governance Division (NeGD).

Conclusion

With more than 50 enterprise implementations and a legacy of 15 years handling Indian personal data, Privy by IDfy positions itself as a partner that can navigate the intricate realities of DPDP compliance and evolving data‑governance needs.
