IEEE Higher Education Summit 2026 – New Delhi, 13 June 2026
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization and a public charity, convened a summit titled “Reimagining Private Higher Education in India: Innovation, Sustainability, and Competitiveness.” The event brought together leading private universities, industry representatives, and policy makers to explore how India’s higher‑education ecosystem can power the nation’s technology leadership.
IEEE President and CEO Mary Ellen Randall addressed the delegates, stating that rapid advances in artificial intelligence and related technologies require engineering education to become more flexible and to deepen industry‑academia collaboration. She highlighted IEEE’s role in shaping future‑ready educational ecosystems that equip the next generation of engineers to drive innovation and address global challenges.
Prof. Bhim Singh, ANRF National Science Chair and Emeritus Professor, lauded IEEE as a catalyst for technology innovation, noting that the organization creates trusted knowledge platforms where researchers, academics, and budding scientists can exchange ideas, promote high‑level research, and collaborate globally to solve practical problems.
A dedicated panel titled “The Next Technology Wave: Building India’s Leadership in AI, Semiconductor & Sustainable Innovation” examined how private universities can redesign curricula to incorporate AI, advanced computing, energy technologies, and sustainability. Participants discussed concrete pathways for universities to contribute to national missions in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and other strategic areas. The dialogue emphasized skill integration to ensure graduates are industry‑ready and aligned with emerging technology trends.
Another panel, “From Rankings to Relevance: Building Future‑Ready Universities with Purpose and Impact,” focused on policy frameworks that accelerate high‑quality research and innovation, foster international partnerships, strengthen industry collaborations, and promote long‑term sustainability. Speakers highlighted the need for global benchmarking, purpose‑driven education, and alignment with national priorities.
