IIM Bangalore Indonesia Campus Announcement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced during his visit to Indonesia that the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) will establish its first international campus in Indonesia. The announcement was made during a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The campus will be located at Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Malang, Indonesia, and is positioned as a landmark step toward the internationalization of India's higher education ecosystem.

This initiative represents a significant milestone in India's educational global expansion, following similar overseas campuses established by IIM Ahmedabad in Dubai, IIT Delhi in Abu Dhabi, and IIT Madras in Zanzibar. The campus underscores India's growing strategic partnership with Indonesia and aims to position India as a global provider of high-quality affordable education while strengthening academic collaboration across the Indo-Pacific region.

Curriculum and Program Structure

The curriculum for the Indonesia campus will focus on five critical elements of the emerging business landscape: Global Supply Chains, Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence, Climate and Sustainability, and Healthcare Management. Each program will be enriched through interactions with industry leaders, academicians, and global personalities.

Implementation Phases

The programs will be executed in two phases. Phase One will commence with high-quality Executive Education Programs targeted at senior executives, business leaders, and public sector professionals. Subject to successful implementation over the initial two years, Phase Two will introduce degree-granting management programs. The program will be implemented through a Memorandum of Understanding between IIM Bangalore and PT Intelegensia Grahatama (PT IGT), the Managing and Development Entity of the Singhasari SEZ.

Target Audience and Strategic Objectives

The campus is primarily intended to serve Indonesian nationals while also attracting participants from neighboring Southeast Asian countries. Participants will have opportunities to undertake short academic immersion visits to IIMB's Bengaluru campus, providing exposure to India's innovation ecosystem and business environment. The initiative aims to deepen India-Indonesia relations while positioning Indonesia as a regional hub for quality management education and reinforcing India's commitment to making the Global South a destination for world-class education and leadership development.

This initiative advances the vision of India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages premier Indian institutions to establish an international presence and expand access to world-class education.
