Admission Extension and Timeline
The 12th cohort of the IIT Bombay‑Washington University Executive MBA program is in its final admission phase. Round 4, originally scheduled to close earlier, has been extended to October 18 2026, with the ultimate deadline in November for the last round. The cohort will commence in January 2027, and the press release emphasizes that seats are limited, urging senior professionals to apply early to improve their chances of securing a place.
Programme Structure and Partnership
The Executive MBA is an 18‑month joint degree offered through a partnership between IIT Bombay’s Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management and Washington University’s Olin Business School. It is the only Executive MBA worldwide that awards a joint degree from both an Indian and an American university. Classes are held at the IIT Bombay campus in Mumbai in four‑day residential sessions each month (Thursday to Sunday). The international component includes residencies in Washington, D.C., and St. Louis, with sessions at the Brookings Institution. The curriculum covers leadership, strategy, finance, marketing, and operations, and participants receive one‑on‑one leadership coaching.
Rankings and Strategic Goals
In the QS Executive MBA Rankings for joint programmes, the program progressed from 24th in 2022, to 22nd in 2023, 18th in 2024, and reached 16th globally in 2025. At the launch of Batch 11, Prof. Dinesh Sharma stated that the next target is to break into the global top five.
Alumni and Leadership
The program has graduated ten batches, with the 10th batch (launched 15 January 2025) comprising senior managers, CEOs, entrepreneurs and directors from organisations such as Oracle India, Aditya Birla Group, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Godrej Industries, Apple India, Adani and TCS, averaging 17 years of work experience across more than 15 industries. The 11th cohort, launched on 14 January 2026, includes professionals from technology, manufacturing, finance, consulting, healthcare, energy and consumer sectors, also averaging 17 years of experience.
Alumni now hold senior roles globally, ranging from C‑suite positions in multinational corporations to leadership in entrepreneurial ventures. Gopal Shukla, an alumnus of the programme, serves as CEO of the IIT Bombay‑WashU Joint Venture and highlighted that the programme aims to provide a strong learning experience over the 18 months, helping participants grow personally and professionally.
