Honorary Doctorate Award

On July 26, 2026, during the Annual Convocation Ceremony 2026 held in Kolkata, Techno India Group conferred an Honorary Doctorate (D.Litt., Honoris Causa) on Ravindra Chamaria, Chairman and Managing Director of Infinity Group.

The distinction was awarded in acknowledgement of Chamaria’s visionary leadership in shaping Eastern India’s premier technology ecosystem, driving entrepreneurship, fostering institutional growth, championing sustainable infrastructure, and advancing impactful philanthropic initiatives.

Co‑honourees and Acknowledgements

Chamaria shared the stage with co‑honourees Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra, filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, scientist Dr. Naresh Chandra Murmu, and musician Anup Jalota. He expressed gratitude to Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Roy Chowdhury, Executive Director Mr. Meghdut Roy Chowdhury, and the broader Techno India University community.

Chamara’s Career Milestones

Chamaria became CEO of Ganges River Transport at age 21 and emerged as India’s largest jute exporter by age 27. He later built a half‑billion‑dollar trading and oilfield enterprise in Russia and developed real‑estate projects in Dubai before returning to India in 1996 to advance Bengal’s digital future. In 2000, he launched the Infinity Think Tank, the city’s first intelligent IT building equipped with a private 2,000‑line exchange and high‑speed broadband in Salt Lake Sector V. His commitment to green building led to the creation of Infinity Benchmark, India’s first Platinum‑rated green building.

Infinity Group Impact

Infinity Group’s developments now host over 500 companies, support 50,000 jobs, and have positioned the area as a major technology hub. The group continues to deliver multi‑million‑square‑foot commercial, residential, and township projects while promoting sustainable urban infrastructure.

Philanthropic Contributions

Chamaria has served on the advisory board of the Akshaya Patra Foundation for 20 years, contributing to its milestone of serving five billion meals to school children. His philanthropic reach includes education through Vidya Bharati’s 12,500 schools, senior care via Jagriti Dham in Kolkata, and collaborations with The Jaipur Foot, Udayan Care, Round Table India, Ramakrishna Mission, India Autism Centre, and the Anant Education Initiative.

Future Initiatives

He spearheaded Krishna Bhumi in Vrindavan, an iconic residential township built around what will be the world’s tallest Krishna temple, and is planning a 50‑acre continuum‑of‑care senior township. Rejecting retirement at 74, Chamaria remains actively involved in mentorship and provides matching funds to a new NITI Aayog‑funded startup incubator in Kolkata.

Prior Academic Honors

Previously, ASBM University awarded him an Honorary Ph.D. in Management for his contributions to entrepreneurship, institution‑building, and philanthropy.
