Intellia Phase 3 Gene Therapy Results

Intellia Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: NTLA) presented additional Phase 3 data for lonvo‑z, its CRISPR‑based gene‑editing therapy for hereditary angioedema (HAE), at the European Academy of Allergy & Clinical Immunology Annual Congress and in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The HAELO trial enrolled 52 patients receiving lonvo‑z and 28 receiving placebo. From weeks 5 to 28, the treatment arm experienced a mean monthly attack rate of 0.19 versus 1.79 in the placebo arm, representing an 89 % reduction in attacks requiring on‑demand treatment. For moderate‑to‑severe attacks, the mean monthly rate was 0.11 in the lonvo‑z group compared with 1.23 in the placebo group, a 91 % reduction. Quality‑of‑life scores were 17.04 points higher in the treatment group than in placebo.

The most frequent adverse events in the lonvo‑z cohort were infusion‑related reactions, headache, fatigue, back pain and upper respiratory tract infection; all were classified as mild or moderate and no serious adverse events occurred.

Hereditary angioedema affects roughly one in 50,000 individuals and current therapies often require twice‑weekly or daily dosing.

Regulatory status: lonvo‑z holds Orphan Drug and Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy (RMAT) designations from the U.S. FDA, an Innovation Passport from the U.K. MHRA, and PRIME designation from the European Medicines Agency. Intellia filed a rolling biologics license application with the FDA in April and expects U.S. approval and launch in the first half of 2027.

Financing: Intellia priced a follow‑on equity offering of $180 million at $10.75 per share, an 18.6 % discount to the prior closing price, up‑sized from the originally announced $150 million. The offering caused a dilution effect; H.C. Wainwright cut its price target to $25 from $30 while maintaining a Buy rating. Baird noted that short interest in Intellia rose to 39 % from 35 %, the highest increase among biotech stocks.

Share performance: Over the past week the stock fell 11 % to $12.11, though it remains up 34 % year‑to‑date, with a market capitalization of $1.69 billion.
