IonQ stock rose about 10% on April 14, 2026 after announcing successful photonic interconnection of two trapped‑ion quantum computers.
The breakthrough, achieved with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, demonstrated generation, transmission and detection of photons enabling entanglement between distant processors.
CEO Niccolo de Masi said the milestone is pivotal for moving from single‑chip processors to distributed, fault‑tolerant quantum network architectures.
The project adds to IonQ’s government collaborations, including DARPA’s Stage B quantum benchmarking and the launch of its IonQ Federal division.
