iQIYI Launches China’s First AI Film Studio in Shanghai
On October 28, 2026, iQIYI, the leading online entertainment platform in China, began operations at its newly opened AI Film Studio located within the iQIYI Creative Center in Shanghai. The studio’s inaugural project is the internet feature film “Cop in Trouble,” which entered production on the same day.
The facility spans approximately 110 square meters and is equipped for multi‑camera shooting, high‑resolution video and audio capture, digital continuity logging, and real‑time footage review. Footage captured on set is automatically synchronized to NadouPro, iQIYI’s proprietary AI‑powered film and TV production platform. Through this integration, filmmakers gain immediate access to nearly 30 AI models, including Seedance 2.5 and Kling 4.0, as well as hundreds of production‑focused AI agents and skills that can generate new visual elements, adjust environments, lighting, costumes, makeup, and props while preserving the original actors’ performances.
Vice President and Head of Intelligent Production Liang Zhu explained that the AI studio enables directors to retain the core of an actor’s performance while offering greater flexibility to modify sets, lighting, and other visual components, thereby expanding creative freedom for filmmakers and creative professionals.
The narrative of “Cop in Trouble” follows constable Jian Zhang, whose rising fame and wealth begin to crumble as his web of lies to capture a notorious outlaw unravels. The production showcases the studio’s capability to blend live‑action performances with AI‑generated environments, using on‑set recordings as rich input for AI‑driven enhancements in character appearance, composition, lighting, and spatial relationships.
The AI Film Studio builds on iQIYI’s earlier Hengdian virtual studio, which previously delivered production efficiency gains of over 30 %. By extending capabilities from traditional on‑location and green‑screen work to virtual production and AI‑integrated filmmaking, the new studio aims to lower constraints for emerging directors and resource‑constrained teams, facilitating the creation of imaginative worlds across all genres.
