Indian Railways currently operates 19 Rail Neer plants across the country with each plant having a production capacity of 100,000 bottles per day, supplying packaged drinking water to meet the demand across important trains and stations. The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has been assigned the responsibility of establishing new Rail Neer plants at identified locations based on requirement assessments and demand patterns across the railway network.
The tentative cost for setting up a new Rail Neer plant under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model is approximately ₹10 crore for a plant capacity of 100,000 bottles per day. This cost includes construction of Pre-engineered Building (PEB) Shed and installation of Plant & Machinery, but excludes land acquisition costs.
The 19 operational plants are distributed across 13 states: Delhi (Nangloi), Bihar (Danapur), Maharashtra (Ambernath, Nagpur, Bhusawal), Tamil Nadu (Palur), Madhya Pradesh (Maneri, Mandideep), Uttar Pradesh (Amethi, Hapur), Himachal Pradesh (Una), Assam (Jagiroad), West Bengal (Sankrail), Rajasthan (Kota), Gujarat (Sanand), Odisha (Bhubaneswar), Chhattisgarh (Bilaspur), and Andhra Pradesh (Simhadri, Vijayawada).
