IZMO Subsidiary Develops Indigenous 40 GHz RF Package

IZMO Limited's semiconductor subsidiary, izmo Microsystems Pvt. Ltd., has developed an indigenous high frequency RF Quad Flat No-Lead (QFN) package for semiconductor devices operating at frequencies up to 40 GHz. The package has been designed, developed, and manufactured entirely in India for a customer developing high frequency RF modules for defence and secure wireless communication applications.

Technical Specifications

The proprietary package architecture features optimized trace geometry and die positioning achieving wire bond lengths of approximately 0.3 mm, combined with a precision air cavity surrounding the die. This architecture minimizes parasitic effects and enables reliable operation at frequencies up to 40 GHz.

Applications and Market Context

The technology has applications across radar, electronic warfare, secure communications, aerospace, satellite communications, and advanced wireless systems. The development addresses India's growing defence requirements, increased emphasis on indigenous procurement, and strategic importance of secure communications.

Production Status

Following successful assembly and electrical validation, izmo Microsystems has commenced production shipments. Manufacturing processes have been established to support scale-up as requirements grow.

Policy Backdrop

The development aligns with the Government of India's Semicon 2.0 program with an outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore to develop the country's semiconductor design and manufacturing ecosystem. Strengthening the ATMP/OSAT industry with focus on advanced semiconductor packaging technologies is one of the program's six pillars.
