Transaction Overview

A consortium of investors led by Amit Bhatia agreed on 14 August 2026 to purchase a minority stake of approximately 33 % in Liverpool Football Club from Fenway Sports Group. The deal values the Premier League club at more than US$7 billion.

  • Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com, is participating through the investment firm K5 Global, which is managed by Michael Kives and Bryan Baum. The exact amount of Bezos’ investment has not been disclosed.

Governance Implications

Following completion of the transaction, Amit Bhatia, Elaine Saverin and Bryan Baum will be appointed to Liverpool Football Club’s board of directors. Jeff Bezos will not receive a board seat.

Ownership Structure Post‑Deal

Fenway Sports Group will retain majority ownership of Liverpool FC and will continue to oversee the club’s operations. Fenway also owns the Boston Red Sox, and the sale of the Liverpool stake is described by the group as part of its strategy to support the team’s long‑term growth.

Significance

The transaction represents Jeff Bezos’ first entry into sports ownership. The same day, a separate consortium led by Bob Iger and Joshua Kushner announced a $12.5 billion agreement to acquire the Los Angeles Lakers.
