Jindal Stainless Limited issued a press release disclosing its supply of stainless steel for India's first hydrogen-powered train. The company supplied approximately 40% of the total stainless steel requirement for the coach bodies of the hydrogen train.
The specific stainless steel grade supplied was premium austenitic grade X5CrNi1810, which was exclusively supplied from the company's manufacturing plants in Jajpur and Hisar.
The press release emphasizes stainless steel's advantages for railway applications, including:

The disclosure notes that Jindal Stainless has been a supplier to Indian Railways for more than three decades, supplying stainless steel for several landmark projects including:
- First LHB coaches
- Vande Bharat Sleeper
- India's first Vande Metro train
- Various metro and inter-city train sets
- Wagon bodies, including the country's first corrosion-resistant stainless steel salt containers for freight transportation
The press release also provides background information about the company, stating that Jindal Stainless had an annual turnover of INR 42,955 crore (USD 4.86 billion) in FY26 and is ramping up its facilities to reach 4.2 million tonnes of annual melt capacity in FY27. The company has 16 stainless steel manufacturing and processing facilities in India and abroad, including in Spain and Indonesia, and a worldwide network in 12 countries as of March 2026.
