Strategic Transformation Programme Overview

Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, has provided an update on its strategic transformation programme designed to simplify the organization, improve operational performance, and support long-term sustainable growth.

Financial Targets and Savings

As part of the "Growth Reimagined" strategy announced at JLR's Investor Day on June 19, 2026, the company is targeting approximately £1.7 billion in savings over the next two years. These savings are intended to reduce JLR's break-even point towards 300,000 units, enhancing the company's ability to deliver sustainable profitable growth amid increasingly competitive markets and continuing geopolitical uncertainty.

Workforce Reduction

JLR will reduce its global workforce by approximately 4,000 roles over the next two years. The reduction is not expected to impact direct manufacturing jobs and will be achieved through voluntary means wherever possible. The company is beginning consultation on the first round of reductions and will provide support to all affected colleagues, engaging with Trade Unions and employee representatives throughout the transition.

Investment Programme

The transformation programme will underpin JLR's commitment to invest between £15-18 billion over the next five years in:

  • Electrification
  • Digital technologies
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Enhanced customer experiences

Current Employment and Guidance

JLR currently employs 43,000 people globally. The company has stated that it will comment on guidance along with Q2 results.

Strategic Context

The programme aligns with JLR's Reimagine strategy, which aims to deliver a sustainability-rich vision of modern luxury while maximizing the strength of its House of Brands: Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, and Jaguar. The company is transforming its business with the ambition to become carbon net zero across its supply chain, products, and operations by 2039.

Operational Footprint

JLR operates with two design and engineering sites, two vehicle manufacturing facilities, a components and finishing facility, an electric propulsion manufacturing center, and a battery assembly center in the UK. The company also has vehicle plants in China (joint venture), Slovakia, India, and Brazil, as well as seven technology hubs across the globe.
