Researchers at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru developed CLEAR (Cleavable Light-Erased Antibody Reporter) imaging platform
JNCASR is an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST)
CLEAR enables visualization of an unprecedented number of proteins within the same biological sample using just a single fluorescent marker
The technology uses light-cleavable probe system that enables repeated cycles of labelling and imaging within the same spectral window
A gentle pulse of 365 nm LED light is applied to erase the fluorescent signal between imaging cycles
The method works through iterative cycles of labeling, imaging, and erasing to generate detailed protein maps
Technology validated across different biological systems including immune cell systems in collaboration with Indian Institute of Science (IISc)
Publication appeared in Chemical Science journal (Royal Society of Chemistry) with DOI: 10.1039/D5SC08599C
Potential applications include: cancer diagnosis, understanding neurological disorders, immunological research, and precision medicine
Technology enables high-resolution, multiplexed imaging across cells and tissues
Can improve early disease detection and provide comprehensive molecular insights for targeted therapies
