Joyalukkas Completes First Batch of Gold Rings for Tamil Nadu Newborn Scheme
On October 5, 2026, Joyalukkas Group announced that it has completed the first batch of 89,955 gold rings under the Tamil Nadu Government’s ‘Thai Maaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam’. Each ring weighs one gram and is made of 22‑karat gold, conforms to BIS hallmarking requirements, and carries a six‑digit Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) number for traceability. The initiative, launched by Hon’ble Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, intends to give a one‑gram gold ring to every newborn delivered in government hospitals across the state, with an estimated 4.41 lakh newborns expected to benefit.
Joyalukkas secured the procurement as the lowest bidder (L1), quoting only one paisa for all making charges, BIS hallmarking, insurance, transportation and packing, while the cost of gold itself is excluded. The first batch will be supplied to 107 designated government hospitals, primarily high‑load CEmONC centres, and is being packed in exclusive packaging developed specifically for the scheme. Packing and dispatch are underway from Joyalukkas’ dedicated hubs in Chennai and Coimbatore.
Dr. Joy Alukkas, Chairman and Managing Director of Joyalukkas Group, expressed honour in participating in the scheme, highlighting the cultural significance of gold and the company’s long‑standing presence in Tamil Nadu, which includes more than 30 showrooms across the state.
