Project Overview

Karur Vysya Bank has launched a Sponge Park at Mullai Nagar, Tambaram, in partnership with Tambaram City Municipal Corporation. The project is part of the bank's flagship environmental sustainability initiative called KVB Bhoomi.

Project Details

The Sponge Park has been designed as an integrated blue-green infrastructure project that:

  • Captures, stores, and naturally filters rainwater
  • Helps reduce urban flooding
  • Replenishes groundwater resources
  • Addresses challenges of rapid urbanization, declining groundwater levels, and seasonal waterlogging in the region
  • Transforms urban space into a sustainable and multifunctional public asset

Location Specifics

The park is located in Mullai Nagar, Tambaram, which was identified as an area facing:

  • Recurring urban flooding
  • Groundwater stress
  • Limited green public infrastructure

Inauguration Details

The inauguration ceremony was attended by:

  • Shri D. Sarathkumar, Honourable Minister for Human Resource Management, Government of Tamil Nadu
  • Shri S. Balachander, IAS, Commissioner, Tambaram City Municipal Corporation
  • Shri B. Sankar, Executive Director, Karur Vysya Bank
