Launch of Kauvery First Responders
Kauvery Hospital announced the launch of "Kauvery First Responders", a network of ten bike ambulances operating in Chennai. The first phase places the bikes at four locations within the hospital’s network – Alwarpet, Vadapalani, Radial Road and Maa Kauvery – to provide rapid first‑response medical care.
Each bike is staffed by trained medical responders and carries essential emergency equipment, including an automated external defibrillator (AED), oxygen support and an emergency medical kit. The units are equipped with 5G connectivity, a webcam and GPS/live‑tracking, allowing responders to stay linked with the hospital team in real time and to coordinate hand‑over to conventional ambulances.
The bike ambulances are not intended for patient transport; they assess the patient, deliver immediate care such as defibrillation or oxygen, and then coordinate with the hospital’s existing 5G‑enabled ambulance fleet for further management and transport. This model is designed to mitigate delays caused by traffic congestion or limited road access for larger vehicles.
The service was launched by Dr. Manivannan Selvaraj, Founder & Managing Director of the Kauvery Group of Hospitals, and Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co‑Founder & Executive Director. Dr. Selvaraj emphasized that the initiative aims to bring medical assistance closer to the point of need, ensuring that the wait for an ambulance does not also mean a wait for the first medical response. Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj highlighted that the combination of mobility, emergency preparedness and real‑time connectivity can make the critical first minutes of emergency care more purposeful.
Kauvery Hospital already operates a connected emergency ambulance network in Chennai, featuring 5G‑enabled ambulances that support real‑time patient monitoring and remote clinical guidance during transport. The addition of the bike‑based First Responders adds another layer to this emergency‑care pathway, extending rapid response capability further into the community.
