Launch of Advanced Pulsed Field Ablation Platforms

Kauvery Hospital Chennai announced the launch of two of the world’s most advanced pulsed field ablation (PFA) programmes in Tamil Nadu. The Medtronic PulseSelect™ system was installed at the Alwarpet facility, while the Biosense Webster Varipulse™ system, integrated with an advanced three‑dimensional cardiac mapping system, was installed at the Vadapalani facility. This represents the first introduction of both PulseSelect™ and Varipulse™ technologies, as well as the first 3D‑mapping‑integrated PFA platform, in the state of Tamil Nadu.

The launch event was attended by leading international electrophysiology experts from the United States, who collaborated with the Kauvery Hospitals team to initiate the programme and support the first procedures. Dr. N.S. Sivakadaksham, veteran cardiologist, served as chief guest and inaugurated the new “Heart Rhythm Package”, an affordable evaluation programme designed for early diagnosis of arrhythmia symptoms such as palpitations, breathlessness, dizziness, fatigue, or rapid heartbeat.

According to Dr. Deep Chandh Raja, Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology, three patients have already been successfully treated using the PFA procedures at both centres. One case involved a 69‑year‑old female with two years of recurrent palpitations who had failed medical therapy; the PFA procedure was completed in approximately one hour via a key‑hole access in the right groin, and she was discharged the following day on minimal medication. Dr. Raja highlighted the safety, efficacy and speed of the non‑thermal PFA technology.

Kauvery’s Department of Cardiac Electrophysiology also provides comprehensive heart‑rhythm services, including ECG, Holter monitoring, electrophysiology studies, specialised arrhythmia clinics, complex ablation procedures, and device therapies such as pacemakers, implantable defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy, all supported by state‑of‑the‑art 3D mapping systems and a multidisciplinary team.

Co‑Founder and Executive Director of the Kauvery Group of Hospitals, Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, affirmed the group’s commitment to bringing evidence‑based innovations that simplify procedures, enhance safety and improve outcomes, stating that the introduction of PFA underscores this commitment and expands access to world‑class cardiac care for patients in Tamil Nadu, neighbouring states and international destinations.
