Kazipet rail manufacturing unit of Indian Railways is on the verge of completion
This is a versatile railway rolling stock manufacturing unit
The unit will manufacture 200 intercity trains in the next 5 years
Trains will be deployed throughout the country for short distance travel
Trains will have frequent stops and typically run for about 300 km
Each trip will have many stops to facilitate commuting between towns and cities
Trains will serve students going for higher education and common people commuting for health and work needs
Trains provide a new affordable option for intercity travel
Intercity trains will function like shuttle services connecting adjacent towns across India
Large amount of local traffic is likely to move to railways from roads
Trains will be equipped with modern features including automatic door closing
Trains will have superior ventilation and safe coach design
20-coach configuration will be used
Two toilets in every coach, one at each end
Trains will have modern jerk free couplers and bogies
Designed to run at 130 kmph
Trains will feature regenerative braking system
When brakes are applied, the train becomes a generator of electricity
Regenerated electricity will be fed back into the grid
System is energy efficient and represents a greener mode of transport
Significantly less carbon emissions compared to road transport
Introduction of large fleet will increase green and clean transport capacity across the country
The Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, reviewed plans to operationalize the unit
