The system was commissioned on the 207 km Tundla-Panki Dham section. According to Indian Railways, the upgraded system supports train operations at speeds of up to 130 kmph on this newly commissioned section. This installation increases the total Kavach Version 4.0 coverage on the North Central Railway to 652 route kilometres, of which the company, Kernex, has executed 572 route kilometres.
The company further stated that its system has successfully demonstrated support for train operations at speeds of up to 160 kmph over an executed section of 175 route kilometres.
The commissioning involved successful trial runs using the Kanpur Shatabdi Express and Sikkim Mahananda Express trains, which were equipped with the Kernex-built Kavach system. A key technical achievement was the successful integration of the Kavach system with the Hitachi Electronic Interlocking System without any operational issues.
The project's technical scope included Kavach installations at 39 stations, the commissioning of 10 WAP-7 locomotives, the installation of more than 4,600 RFID tags, the construction of 17 communication towers, the laying of 48-core optical fibre cable, and the establishment of 30 dedicated equipment rooms.
Prior to commissioning, the system underwent extensive testing and validation by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), the North Central Railway, and an Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) conducted by Italcertifier, Italy.
The company states that this commissioning reinforces its technological capabilities and strengthens its position as a key contributor to India's indigenous railway safety system.
