Kigen Automotive eSIM Achieves GSMA eSA Certification
On September 23, 2026, Kigen announced from Cambridge, England that its new Automotive eSIM has become the industry’s first GSMA eUICC Security Assurance (eSA) certified eSIM supporting the latest SGP.32 v1.3 specification, which was published in May 2026. The certification combines Kigen’s proprietary eSIM operating system with Infineon’s TEGRION™ SLI22 automotive security controller, delivering a secure, standards‑current platform designed for vehicle fleets with service lives of ten years or more.
Kigen’s eSIM portfolio now includes three product lines that share a common OS, hardware platform, development tools, and management stack: Automotive (SLI22), Consumer (SLC22, supporting SGP.22 v2.7), and Industrial IoT (SLM22, supporting SGP.32 v1.3). This unified architecture enables OEMs to use the same security foundation across infotainment, telematics, and headless vehicle systems, reducing fragmentation, accelerating development, and simplifying expansion across passenger‑transport and industrial vehicle fleets.
The eSA‑certified Automotive eSIM implements SGP.32 v1.3 enhancements such as direct and indirect profile downloads, digital activation codes, and emergency profile handling, providing early visibility into the newest eSIM standards and mitigating the risk of architectural obsolescence for long‑program timelines. While post‑quantum cryptography (PQC) is not yet part of the GSMA specifications, Kigen’s solution can support hybrid key‑encapsulation schemes that combine classical and quantum‑safe algorithms on the same platform. OEMs can evaluate end‑to‑end PQC‑resistant communications using Kigen’s C‑SDK development suite and test eSIM samples.
Kigen’s earlier eSA‑certified IoT and Consumer eSIMs introduced secure OS updates to comply with the EU Cybersecurity Resilience Act (EU CRA) and were certified six months prior to this automotive announcement. Vincent Korstanje, CEO of Kigen, stated that the certification provides a secure path from factory provisioning to global fleet operation while preserving the ability to evolve connectivity throughout a vehicle’s lifetime. Gloria Trujillo, eSIM Technical Director at GSMA, highlighted the achievement as a key step in translating GSMA IoT specifications into secure, interoperable technology for next‑generation connected fleets. Katherine Diao, Head of IoT and Automotive Industry at China Mobile International, praised the partnership that will bring SGP.32‑based security solutions to Chinese automakers and support global deployment aligned with CRA processes.
Kigen’s full eSIM stack assurance covers GSMA SAS‑UP (manufacturing) and SAS‑SM (subscription management) certifications, together with the hosted Kigen eIM remote‑management solution. The Automotive eSIMs are interoperable with more than 20 network providers ready for digital activation and are supported by over 60 “Secure with Kigen” IoT modules. Global connectivity partnerships, including China Mobile International, help OEMs simplify deployment across international vehicle markets. Kigen will participate in GSMA interoperability testing in October 2026 and will make the Automotive eSIM available for OEM sampling in the ETSI MFF2 package from October 2026.
