KVIC Launches Swadha Wellness Wear Collection for International Yoga Day
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, has launched a special wellness wear collection named 'Swadha' in preparation for International Yoga Day on June 21. The collection was launched by KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Goel at the Central Office of the Centre of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK) at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campus in Hauz Khas, New Delhi.
Product Details and Manufacturing
The 'Swadha' collection features nine distinct garment styles designed for effortless mobility and all-day comfort, with most garments being free-size and gender-neutral. The collection utilizes Khadi fabric known for its breathability, lightness, softness, and natural comfort. The khadi fabric is produced by three prestigious institutions: Gandhigram Khadi and V.I. Public Charitable Trust (Tamil Nadu), Payyannur Firka Gramodaya Khadi Sangh (Kerala), and Kshetriya Punjab Khadi Mandal (Punjab).
Financial Performance and Employment Data
The Khadi and Village Industries sector achieved record sales of ₹1.87 lakh crore in the 2025-26 financial year, which KVIC attributes to the collective efforts of millions of artisans, weavers, rural entrepreneurs, and Khadi institutions across the country. The sector has now set an ambitious turnover target of ₹2.51 lakh crore and currently provides employment to approximately 2.04 crore people across India.
Strategic Context and Institutional Background
The launch aligns with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of 'Vocal for Local', 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat', and 'Local to Global'. The Centre of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK) was established in 2021 through collaboration between KVIC and NIFT, with the mandate to modernize Khadi through design innovation, brand development, and market-driven interventions. The 'Swadha' collection represents a significant outcome of this initiative, blending the values of health, tradition, and sustainable living.
