Overview
Maharani Wedding Collections, a Kerala‑based wedding and ethnic wear retailer, created the world’s largest “Saree Pookkalam” (rangoli made from sarees) on 4 August 2026 at Forum Mall, Kochi, as part of the Maharani Group’s Onam celebrations.
Record Details
The installation covered 2,000 square feet and was assembled from 2,100 sarees sourced from across India, representing all 28 states. The sarees displayed a palette of approximately 5,000 colours and included varieties such as silk and Kanchipuram silk.
Recognition
The Universal Records Forum (URF) officially recognised the achievement and issued a world‑record certificate. The certificate was presented by Sunil Joseph, Chief Editor of URF and multiple Guinness World Record holder, to Riyas V.A., Chairman and Managing Director of the Maharani Group, in the presence of industry leaders, film and television personalities, public representatives and other distinguished guests.
Significance
Riyas V.A. stated that the six‑yard saree symbolizes heritage, craftsmanship and womanhood, and that the record‑setting rangoli celebrates the diversity of India’s textile traditions while encouraging women to lead bold lives.
