Strategic Partnership Expansion
Mahindra Lifespace Developers Limited (MLDL), through its joint venture company Mahindra Industrial Park Chennai Limited (MIPCL), has executed a Second Supplemental Agreement between Sumitomo Corporation, Japan and Mahindra World City Developers Limited (MWCDL). This agreement facilitates the expansion of Origins by Mahindra in Chennai with the development of Phase 2B.
Project Details and Land Acquisition
The agreement establishes the framework for the acquisition, transfer, and development of approximately 95 acres of land under Phase 2B. This expansion will strengthen the industrial ecosystem at Origins by Mahindra, bringing the combined area across all phases to approximately 540 acres.
Partnership History and Development Timeline
The partnership between Mahindra Lifespaces and Sumitomo Corporation began in 2015 with Phase 1 of Origins by Mahindra in Chennai. The collaboration expanded to Phase 2A in 2024 and has now been extended to Phase 2B in July 2026.
Strategic Objectives and Market Positioning
The expansion is designed to capitalize on strong interest from Japanese manufacturers establishing operations in India and is expected to support the next wave of global and domestic investments. This development aims to reinforce Chennai's position as a preferred industrial and logistics hub.
