Manipal DBS Summit 2026 – India's First Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation Conference
On 21 July 2026, Manipal Hospital Sarjapur Road in Bengaluru hosted the Manipal DBS Summit 2026, marking the first dedicated scientific meeting in India focused exclusively on Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation (aDBS). The one‑day academic programme brought together more than 80 neurologists and neurosurgeons from across the country to examine the latest clinical results, real‑world applications and programming techniques of aDBS, an intelligent neuromodulation technology that automatically adjusts stimulation in response to a patient’s brain activity, thereby offering more personalised therapy and improved symptom control for Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.
The summit was inaugurated by Deepak Venugopal, Regional Chief Operating Officer of Manipal Hospitals, who emphasized the role of academic collaboration in advancing patient care. Key presentations were delivered by Dr. Shiva Kumar R, Head and Senior Consultant – Neurology at Manipal Hospital Sarjapur Road, who detailed the hospital’s experience and outcomes with aDBS, and by Dr. Ajay Hegde, Consultant – Functional Neurosurgeon, who highlighted how neuromodulation advancements are reshaping treatment of complex neurological disorders. Dr. Raghavendra S, Director of Epilepsy Services and Senior Consultant – Neurology, underscored the strength of the Manipal Hospitals network, noting that the Sarjapur Road campus leads in Deep Brain Stimulation, the Yeshwanthpur campus excels in epilepsy surgery, and the Millers Road campus is a centre of excellence for comprehensive stroke care.
The event also featured participation from a distinguished panel of clinicians—including Dr. Nishchit Hegde, Dr. Milind Deogaonkar, Dr. Anurag Saxena, Dr. Sathwik Shetty, Dr. Pramod Pal, Dr. Sanjeev CC, Dr. Ravi Gopal Varma, Dr. Dwaraknath Srinivas, Dr. Vikram Holla, Dr. Swati Nair, Dr. Guruprasad and Dr. Raghuram G—who contributed to discussions on the evolving role of adaptive DBS in clinical practice. Senior hospital leaders Mr. Arnab Mondal (Zonal Director), Dr. Suja Vinay (Cluster Director), Dr. Aditya (Hospital Director) and Dr. Kshitija Kulkarni (Regional Head of Medical Services) were also present, reinforcing the network’s commitment to specialised neurological care.
